History

The newly renovated Mountain Memories B&B’s has now “Gone Green” and features the same beautiful lake views from your private deck. The all new rock and cedar construction features three unique rooms within the spacious inn.

Olive Branch Room

My branch of the Olive family has been in America since around 1700. William Olive was born in England in the late 1600’s and died in North Carolina in 1730. Although most of the early generations remained in Apex, North Carolina my great great grandfather was living in Arkansas by 1860. Hillard Haywood Olive now has six generations of descendants who were born and reside in Arkansas. The most famous Olive was Print Olive who is featured in the Olive Branch Room. Other distant Olive relatives are Fay Dunaway and John Grissom. Enjoy the family history and be sure to let me know if we are cousins.

The Wolf House Room

My extended family now includes the descendants of Jacob Wolf who was an early settler in this area and renowned owner of the Wolf House in Norfork. Since my daughter married a direct descendant and is now Candice Wolf, I included the Wolf House in my mountain memories. The Wolf House was built in 1829 at the junction of the White River and North Fork River. It is said to be the oldest two story log structure in Arkansas and may be explored further at www.baxtercounty.org/wolfhouse.php

The Moody Addition

Mountain Memories would not be complete without honoring the Moody family of Branson which includes my four grandsons. Grant, Chase, Blake, and Jaxon Lee are the children of my daughter and her husband, Autumn and Greg. Greg and his family were the musical Moody Family from Mountain View who preformed in numerous venues including the Ozark Folk Center. The musical decorations reflect the talents of the family.

Laffayette Room

People from Arkansas know that Lafayette is a 2 syllable word (La fet) especially if they are from Lafayette County in south Arkansas. This is the county where my family has lived since the 1860’s. My relatives lived in the big cities of Lewisville, Stamps, and Bradley as well as the communities of McKamie and Mars Hill. I have wonderful memories of my life there and display items from the area such as pictures and quilts made by my ancestors. If you are from Lafayette County I welcome your pictures or memories of the area.
